Écrite en 2022, Contact a valu au compositeur un Grammy récompensant l’audacieuse créativité d’une œuvre inclassable, dont chaque mouvement installe une atmosphère différente, toujours sur le thème de l’interconnexion. En guise d’apothéose à cette soirée haletante, les temps forts du ballet Roméo et Juliette — fondé sur la célèbre tragédie de Shakespeare — nous ouvrent les yeux sur l’esprit visionnaire de Prokofiev : difficile d’imaginer que les danseurs du Kirov puis du Bolchoï ont refusé en 1935 de se produire sur cette partition jugée impropre à la danse! Imaginée pour un fameux western des années 1970, la partition capture tout l’esprit de l’Ouest américain et précède le chef-d’œuvre instrumental d’un autre musicien révélé par le cinéma hollywoodien : Erich Wolfgang Korngold. Dans son Concerto pour violon, ce dernier reprend des thèmes d’un grand souffle lyrique puisés dans ses plus belles musiques de films. Suit un trésor longtemps oublié de Mahler : Blumine, est le mouvement lent original de sa Première symphonie, écarté par le compositeur avant d’être découvert longtemps après sa mort, en 1966. Sa poésie sentimentale et nostalgique serre le cœur, avant que n’éclate la majestueuse Septième symphonie de Dvořák.
